Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to call a special session of Parliament to demonstrate the country’s collective resolve against terrorism in the wake of recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. They said such a move would send a strong message of national unity.
The letter comes amid a spike in terror-related violence in the Jammu region. On Sunday, nine people were killed and over 30 injured after suspected terrorists opened fire on a bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi district. The bus veered off the road and plunged into a gorge. A series of search operations have been launched since the attack.
In their joint letter, Gandhi and Kharge called for “a detailed discussion on the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the rise in terrorist incidents.” They stated that the people of India expect a strong, united response from all political parties at such a time and that Parliament is the appropriate forum for this collective expression.
The Congress leaders stated that the rise in terrorism-related incidents required urgent and transparent debate in the national legislature. They also highlighted the importance of standing together “above political differences” and stressed that such a session would reaffirm Parliament’s commitment to national security and the protection of citizens’ lives.
Security forces continue combing operations in the affected region, and high-level reviews of the situation have been conducted by central and state authorities. The attack has triggered widespread political reactions across party lines. No group has formally claimed responsibility for the Reasi attack so far.
